‘Free textbooks for students up to class 8 in Kashmir valley and Jammu’s winter zones by Nov-end, with summer zone of Jammu division, distribution to be completed by first week of December’

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 24 – Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), on Friday said that the Class 10th examinations will commence on November 3, followed by Class 12 on November 8, and Class 11 on November 19, respectively.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, the Secretary confirmed that the JKBOSE has already issued the official date sheet for all three classes.

“We have already issued the date sheets. In Class 10, around 95,000 students are appearing, in Class 11 around 82,000, and in Class 12 around 70,000 students,” he informed.

The Secretary further stated that following multiple representations from various stakeholders, the Board has approved a 15 percent relaxation in syllabus for students this session.

“The relaxation decision was taken after careful consideration by a committee headed by the Chairman. This will provide some relief to students who faced academic disruptions,” he said.

He clarified that this examination schedule applies primarily to the Kashmir Valley and winter zone areas of Jammu division.

On the issue of textbook distribution, the Secretary said that by the end of November, all students up to Class 8 in the Kashmir Valley and winter zone areas of Jammu division will receive free textbooks. For the summer zones of Jammu division, the process will be completed by the first week of December,” he assured.

Addressing concerns about conducting exams amid cold conditions in far-flung regions, the Secretary said that adequate logistical arrangements have been made, including the secure storage of confidential materials in local police stations to ensure smooth conduct.

“We have made all necessary arrangements to ensure that students do not face any inconvenience,” he added.

Emphasizing the importance of resilience and preparedness, the Secretary remarked, “We should not let extreme weather become an excuse. True parenting means allowing children to face challenges—it builds resilience and confidence in them.”
