BGSBU celebrates 19th Foundation Day

RAJOURI, DEC 15 – Celebrated its 19th Foundation Day on December, 15,2022. The event was graced with the presence of the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Akbar Masood and the First lady of the University Dr. Seema Akbar. Prof. Qayyum Husain, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Srinagar was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

In his address, Prof. Akbar Masood said that the BGSBU, despite its relatively young age, in terms of its establishment has been making significant strides in the field of academics, infrastructural developments, and other extra-curricular activities so much so that it has reckoned its presence as one of the premier institutions of Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Akbar said that over the years, BGSB University has emerged as a popular academic destination for the students of J&K and created its distinctive niche for academic pursuits in this hinterland. After achieving many milestones in recent years, it now looks forward to sustained future development to occupy the coveted position amongst the national and international institutions of excellence, The VC said.

Congratulating  the BGSBU Fraternity on 19th Foundation Day, Prof. Akbar mentioned that many student-centric and employee-friendly initiatives have been taken up recently which are yielding unbelievable results in terms of the performance of students, staff, and faculty members of the University. Prof. Akbar said that as we have completed 19 years of our remarkable journey, we pledge to continue to strive for excellence, for which the foundation was laid on this very day, 19 years.

Prof. Qayyum Husain in his address applauded the BGSBU fraternity for making path-breaking initiatives and thereby developing BGSB University as a center of excellence in academics and research. He said that In the last two years under the magnanimous leadership of Prof. Akbar Masood, BGSB University has been creating a niche in the academic forums not only in India but abroad as well. Congratulating the students for their power-packed performances, Prof. Qayoom advised students to imbibe a positive attitude and self-belief and work towards the betterment of the country.

 

On the occasion the Vice Chancellor felicitated Jb. Khurshid Bismil, who has written the Tarana of the University. The Vice-Chancellor also felicitated six recently retired employees of the University including Mr. Rashid Chowdhary and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Wani. On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor felicitated an alumnus of the university Mr. Zahoor Ahmed as well.

As a recognition of outstanding performance in research, the Vice Chancellor awarded Dr. A.A Shah, Dr . Asghar Mughal, Dr. Raja Amir, Dr. Tanveer Hasan  , Dr. Saleem Rishi, and Dr. Ahmed Rayaz. The Vice-Chancellor felicitated the faculty, officers, and staff of the University for their remarkable contribution to the corporate life of the University. Those who were felicitated included, Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum, Dr. A. A. Shah, Dr. Tete Xavier, Dr. Parvez Abdilla, Dr. Danish Iqbal Raina, Dr. Parvaiz Alam, Dr . Majid Bashir Malik, Dr. Zakir Malik Bhalessi, Dr. Rafiq Anjum, Dr. Farkhanda Ana, Dr. Saima Aslam, Dr. Ahmed Rayaz, Mr . Suneet Gupta, Mr. Qasim Kholi, Mrs. Shabina Nazir, Mrs. Nobila Nazneen, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed, Mr. Sunny Gupta, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Shah, Dr. Gourav Sehgal, Mr. Mujeeb ur Rehman, Dr. Manmeet Singh, Mr . Mubashir Malik, Mr . Sahil Hameed, and Mr. Shiv Kumar.

The Vice-Chancellor also felicitated five departments for their outstanding performance namely the Department of Zoology, Department of Botany, Department of Biotechnology, College of Nursing, and Centre for Hospitality and Tourism.

 

Earlier Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Iqbal Parwez delivered the welcome address and highlighted the various achievements made by the University in national and international forums under the leadership of Prof. Akbar Masood. In his address, Prof. Iqbal Parwez acknowledged the contribution of former Vice-Chancellors of the University in institutional building.

 

A glittering cultural program showcasing the cultural diversity of J&K was also presented on the occasion by the students of various departments including the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism, Environmental Sciences, Department of Urdu, and Department of English and Management.

On the occasion, The Vice Chancellor also released the 3rd edition of the quarterly magazine of the University’s Campus Buzz’.

Mr. Mohd Ishaq, Registrar of the University proposed the vote of thanks. Those who were present on the occasion included Dean SOET Prof. Asif Hussain, Associate Deans,  Heads of various departments, faculty members, officers and officials, students, and research scholars of the University. Ms. Mahleeqa Batool, a student of the English Department conducted the proceedings of the event.
