UDHAMPUR: Indu Kanwal Chib, who recently took over as Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, has taken lead in household waste management through composting.
As per the daily routine, an employee of Municipal Council tasked with door to door waste collection went to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur’s residence but she desired to manage the waste on her own by compressing it into a pit on a daily basis to create compost for the garden.
The Municipal Council Udhampur appreciated the innovative idea of the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur towards household wet waste management and reduction in the quantity of waste generation.
Inspired by the move of the DDC, the CEO Municipal Council Udhampur has appealed to all residents of Udhampur town to segregate their daily household waste into dry and wet at source and manage the wet waste by way of digging small pits and composting it to help in the reduction of garbage quantity in the town. He stated that the composting is the natural process of decomposition and recycling of organic material into a humus rich soil known as compost. He added that the food waste consisting of peels of fruits and vegetables, rotten fruits and vegetables, dairy products, breads, egg shells, meats, etc. can be composted and used as organic manure for kitchen garden.
