SRINAGAR, JANUARY 23 – Air traffic to and from Srinagar Airport remained severely disrupted on Friday as continuous snowfall since the early hours of the day led to multiple flight cancellations, delays and suspension of operations, airport authorities said.

Srinagar Airport authorities confirmed that several flights have been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions at Srinagar, while some services were also affected because of a NOTAM in force at Delhi Airport. Passengers were advised to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.

According to the list of cancelled flights released by the airport, a number of morning arrivals and departures scheduled till around 0800 hours were cancelled. The cancellations were attributed to poor visibility, snow accumulation on the runway and operational constraints arising from weather conditions.

Airport authorities further stated that snow clearance activities are actively underway at Srinagar Airport. However, prevailing weather conditions indicate that normalization of flight operations may take longer than expected. Passengers have been requested to remain in constant touch with airlines for updates.

Airlines have also issued travel advisories. IndiGo, said that due to snowfall in Srinagar, flight operations, including take-offs and landings, have been temporarily put on hold, which may lead to extended waiting times both onboard aircraft and on the ground. The airline assured passengers that rebooking and refund options would be available for impacted flights.

In another weather advisory, Srinagar Airport authorities warned that continuous snowfall could lead to further delays and additional cancellations in the interest of safety and smooth aircraft operations. Authorities reiterated that passenger safety remains the top priority amid the prevailing weather conditions. [KNT]
