SRINAGAR, JAN 04 – Fresh snowfall was recorded on Sunday in the tourist areas of Gulmarg, Tangmarg and Drung, while Srinagar and other plain parts of the Valley remained dry.

In a statement, light to moderate snowfall began in Gulmarg in the morning, covering the hill station in a new white layer. Snow was also reported from Tangmarg and Drung, which led to a drop in temperature and drew tourists to the spots.

Srinagar did not receive snow during the day, but cold conditions continued due to low temperatures.

Tourists in Gulmarg said the snowfall made their visit memorable. “We were eagerly waiting for snowfall, and it has made our visit very special. Gulmarg looks extremely beautiful,” a tourist from Delhi said.

Visitors in Drung shared similar excitement. “This is our first snowfall experience. The weather and scenery are amazing, and we are enjoying every moment here,” another tourist said.

Tourism officials said the fresh snow is expected to increase tourist arrivals in the coming days, especially in snow-covered destinations.

The Meteorological Department said snowfall may continue in the higher reaches, but the plains are likely to stay dry for now.

“Higher areas may receive light snowfall, while the weather in the plains is expected to remain dry at present,” an official from the department said.(KNS)
