SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 31 – Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies have stepped up alertness across the Valley as a large number of tourists arrive in Kashmir to celebrate the New Year, with heightened security arrangements put in place at major tourist destinations.

Officials said intensified security measures have been implemented in and around key locations including Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Srinagar to ensure the safety of visitors and locals alike. The influx of tourists has significantly increased footfall at hotels, markets and public spaces across the Valley.

In the wake of the Pahalgam attack, security agencies have further strengthened surveillance, particularly during night hours. Officials said night patrols have been intensified, while strict checking is being carried out at entry and exit points of Srinagar city and other sensitive locations.

Police personnel have been deployed in high density areas to monitor movement and screen visitors as part of preventive security measures. Additional checkpoints have also been established along major routes leading to tourist resorts to maintain close watch on vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Authorities said the objective of the enhanced security grid is to ensure a safe and peaceful environment during the New Year celebrations and to reassure tourists visiting the Valley. Tourists have been advised to cooperate with security personnel during routine checks and to follow advisories issued by the administration.

Officials added that all arrangements are being closely monitored to maintain law and order while facilitating smooth celebrations across Kashmir. [KNT]
