JAMMU, DECEMBER 31 – The Jammu Crime Branch on Wednesday described 2025 as a landmark year, having registered 67 FIRs involving serious and complex economic offences and arrested 22 accused persons during the year.

An official spokesperson said that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu Crime Branch achieved record disposal during 2025 by resolving 1,186 complaints and registering 67 fresh cases—the highest number recorded in the last 25 years. The monetary value of cases charge-sheeted during the year was estimated at around ₹20 crore.

The spokesperson said that special teams of the EOW Jammu arrested 22 accused involved in different FIRs from within Jammu and Kashmir as well as from outside the Union Territory.

He said the investigations involved painstaking scrutiny and detailed analysis of documentary and digital evidence, along with sustained coordination with various government departments, banks, and financial institutions. The EOW Jammu dealt with a wide range of cases, including land frauds, high-profile economic offences, impersonation and cheating cases, visa frauds, misappropriation of government funds, and misuse of official position by public servants. Special focus was laid on illegal job consultancy rackets operating in the Jammu zone.

During 2025, the spokesperson said, organised networks of land brokers, habitual offenders, and professional fraudsters involved in systematic economic crimes were identified and booked, sending out a strong deterrent message against economic offences.

He added that the photo sections of the EOW Jammu, established across different districts, played a significant role by providing extensive photographic documentation of crime scenes. These units covered 3,599 crime scenes in cases registered at various police stations across the Jammu zone during the year.(KINS)
