Elected Government Must Deliver, Stand Up With Students: Aga Syed Rahullah

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 31 – Member of Parliament Aga Syed Rahullah on Wednesday strongly criticised the elected government, accusing it of failing to deliver on promises even after more than a year in office and of not standing up for the people, particularly students.

Talking to reporters, Rahullah said it was time for the government to deliver, stating that more than a year had already passed since it assumed power. He warned that if the government fails to perform, the very people who helped it come to power would also have the strength to remove it.

He questioned the silence of the elected government on issues concerning students and asked what was preventing ministers from engaging directly with them and standing up for their rights. Rahullah said that if approvals from the Lieutenant Governor were required, the government should seek them and take a clear stand in favour of students.

The MP also questioned the continuation of bulldozer actions, asking why the government was not stopping such measures despite being elected by the people. He said the government was elected to represent public interests and not to remain a silent spectator.

Responding sharply to remarks made by Minister Javaid Rana, who had allegedly referred to him as a Delhi agent, Rahullah rejected the allegation and accused Rana of hypocrisy. He claimed that the same minister had earlier approached him and repeatedly requested his help to secure a desired portfolio.

Rahullah said such statements reflect frustration and a lack of accountability, adding that elected representatives must focus on governance and delivery instead of indulging in personal attacks.(KNT)
