KARNAH, KUPWARA, APRIL 04 – The Zarla Winter Festiva concluded in Karnah with a grand celebration of culture, sports, and community spirit, drawing enthusiastic participation from locals and dignitaries alike. Organized with the active support of the Indian Army, the festival featured traditional music, folk dance performances, snow volleyball, skiing contests, and free ski training for young enthusiasts.

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan (IAS), graced the occasion along with Deputy Commandant of 104 Shakti Vijay Brigade, Col Sudeep Bose, SDM Karnah Zaffar Ahmad Lone, CO 7 Rashtriya Rifles, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Tangdar, Principal of GDC Tangdar, Judge Munsif Court Karnah, and Principal of Army Goodwill School (AGS) Hajinar. More than 2000 young participants from different schools and colleges took part in various competitions, making the event a grand success.

During the event, DC Kupwara Ayushi Sudan facilitated Project Beacon and 7 Rashtriya Rifles for their outstanding efforts in keeping Road Sadhna open amid heavy snowfall and avalanche warnings. Despite harsh weather conditions, their dedication ensured the connectivity of Karnah Valley, providing essential access for residents and travelers. The administration acknowledged their crucial role in maintaining lifelines in extreme winter conditions and expressed gratitude for their unwavering commitment.

The festival, supported by the Indian Army, emphasized sportsmanship, youth engagement, and adventure tourism. The free ski training program conducted by certified instructors from Gulmarg was one of the key attractions, allowing young participants to learn professional skiing techniques and explore career opportunities in winter sports.

The Indian Army’s contribution in fostering youth development through adventure sports and cultural engagement was widely appreciated. The festival successfully highlighted the resilience, unity, and rich traditions of Karnah Valley, leaving an indelible mark on all attendees.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the aim of holding the Zarla Winter Festival is to boost the tourism potential of picturesque Karnah valley.

She thanked all the stakeholders including line departments, Army, Police, public representatives and general public for making the event a grand success.

Local leaders and dignitaries who were present at the event, acknowledged the hard work and collaboration of the Indian Army especially 104 Shakti Vijay Brigade and different stakeholders that made the festival a success.
