SKIMS accords warm send-off to Prof. Shariq Masoodi

SRINAGAR, FEB 28 – Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, today accorded a warm send-off to Prof. Shariq Rashid Masoodi, Dean of Medical Faculty and Head of the Department of Endocrinology, on his superannuation.
A farewell function was organized at SKIMS to honor Prof. Shariq’s invaluable contributions to medical education and patient care.
Colleagues and staff members lauded his leadership and remarkable academic achievements, which have significantly contributed to the growth and reputation of SKIMS.
Director SKIMS/ EOSG Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, praised Prof. Shariq’s dedication and his role in enhancing the standards of medical education and healthcare.
“His commitment and exceptional expertise have left an indelible mark on the institution. His dedication to patient care and research will leave a lasting impact. He has been an inspiration to many, and we deeply appreciate his service over the decades,” he said.
Prof. Shariq retired after rendering dedicated and distinguished services to the institution. He completed his MBBS from GMC Srinagar in 1987, followed by an MD from SKIMS Deemed University in 1993. He further pursued a DM in Endocrinology from PGI Chandigarh in 2003.
Prof. Shariq’s extensive knowledge and expertise have greatly contributed to the field of endocrinology and medical education. He is actively associated with several prestigious medical societies, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence and research.
He is an active member of the International Endocrine Society (ESI), USA, and a life member of the Endocrine Society of India (ESI), the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), the Association of Physicians of India (API), and the Bone & Mineral Research Society of India (ISBMR).
He has been actively involved in groundbreaking research projects, including studies on Vitamin-D replacement in pregnant women, the effect of Vitamin D on insulin resistance, and the Diabetes in Young Registry.
In addition to his academic and research contributions, Prof. Shariq has held key positions at SKIMS, significantly impacting medical education and research.

Prof. Shariq also took several academic initiatives under the leadership of current Director Prof Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, that included building research ecosystem, framing protocols for university, shifting to new University Block, transparent protocols , the first-ever Directors conclave, Deans Conclave, Principals conclave to name a few.
Additionally, his efforts led to the permission for DNB courses in various specialties, broadening the scope of advanced medical education at SKIMS.
During his farewell speech, Prof. Shariq expressed his gratitude to his colleagues, staff, and students especially administration led by visionary director Prof Ganie for their continuous support throughout his career.
He fondly recalled his journey at SKIMS, sharing memories that reflected his deep bond with the institution.
