KARNAH, FEB 27– The NC Pass remains buried under 5-6 feet of snow, with a high avalanche warning, making clearance work unlikely to resume anytime soon. Authorities indicate that movement through the pass is highly improbable for at least the next three to four days.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Mukhtar, Director of Meteorology Srinagar, stated that there is a high possibility of snow and rainfall in the next 24 hours, affecting both higher and lower reaches in the northern and southern regions. However, no major weather disturbance is currently forecast. Farmers have been advised to avoid agricultural activities for the past week due to adverse conditions.
Meanwhile, a control room has been established at the SDM office in Tangdar to monitor the situation. Heavy rainfall has been reported in parts of kupwara, Machil, Keran, and Karnah, leading to the closure of key routes.
Additionally, electricity has remained disrupted for the last 24 hours. Despite efforts by Power Development Department (PDD) employees to restore power, heavy snowfall has prevented repair work.
Amid the ongoing crisis, locals have urged the administration to provide helicopter services to facilitate movement and emergency travel.
