NIT Srinagar organizes day-long special winter medical camp

SRINAGAR, OCT 20 – The Medical Unit of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar organized a day-long special Winter Medical Camp for students and staff of the Institute.
The event’s primary goal was to promote winter preparedness, particularly in light of the challenging winter climate in Kashmir Valley.
The camp was inaugurated by Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Sudhakar Yelda, who was Chief Guest on the occasion. It was attended by Registrar NIT Srinagar, Deans, HoDs, HoCs, faculty members, and students of the Institute.
In his inaugural speech, Prof. Yelda emphasized the significance of being prepared for the challenging winter climate of the Kashmir Valley. He acknowledged that winters in the region can be particularly harsh and demanding, necessitating specific precautions to safeguard health.
“This Winter Medical Camp represents a proactive measure aimed at ensuring that our students and staff are well-prepared not only academically but also physically and mentally equipped to confront the distinct challenges presented by the winter in this region,” he said.
Prof. Yedla said that it is our responsibility to furnish the essential resources and information to safeguard our community.
Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari, the Institute’s Registrar, emphasized the collective responsibility of nurturing a healthy campus.
He urged all students and staff to actively participate in initiatives that promote physical and mental well-being. The healthy campus is a collective responsibility that requires the engagement and commitment of the entire NIT Srinagar community, Prof. Bukhari said.

Earlier Institute’s Medical Officer, Dr. Gowhar Nabi), delivered an introductory speech, outlining the comprehensive healthcare services available at the Winter Medical Camp. He stressed the significance of medical check-ups, vaccinations, expert guidance on winter health, and mental health support.
The camp featured a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including medical check-ups, vaccinations, expert advice on winter health, and practical tips for winter safety. Specialists were on hand to provide guidance on maintaining physical and mental health during the winter months.
During the event, several experts shared valuable insights, Dr. Nasir, a specialist, shared Winter Respiratory Health Tips for students, focusing on maintaining good breathing practices during the cold season.
Dr. Urnaib Riyaz (Dental Surgeon) discussed new challenges in the fight against Cold Injuries during winters in Kashmir, emphasizing the importance of preventing and addressing cold-related injuries.
Counsellor Fairoze Malla stressed the importance of nurturing mental health and resilience among students during winter, acknowledging the unique psychological challenges the season may pose.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Tasaduq (Institute’s Physio), along with various other dedicated staff members from the Medical Unit.
The substantial turnout of students and faculty members underscored NIT Srinagar’s steadfast commitment to fostering a culture of well-being and equipping the community to flourish throughout all seasons.
