DC Jammu reviews implementation of National Clean Air Programme

JAMMU, JULY 27 – Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Avny Lavasa, today chaired a meeting to review the implementation of National Clean Air Programme and discussed the actionable points under it.
Threadbare discussion was held on the actionable points including restriction on plying/phasing out of 15 years old commercial vehicles, introduction of cleaner fuel like CNG/LPG, launching of extensive drive against polluting vehicles, monitoring of vehicles fitness certificate, traffic management, development of multi layer parking, development of green belt areas, plantation of tree along with roads, covering of construction sites, installation of air pollution control devices in Industries, shifting/ban on polluting industries etc.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the concerned officials to robust the activities to improve air quality including development of EV charging infrastructure in the city to encourage e-rickshaws/e-vehicles, setting up of adequate number of PUC testing centers, registered vehicles with PUC certificates etc.
She instructed the J&K Pollution Control Committee to ensure installation of air pollution control devices in Industries and ban the industries which fails to comply. She also asked them to establish CAAQMS to improve air quality.
The Commissioner JMC was asked to plant trees along with roads and take measures to develop green-belt in open areas. She also directed to ensure measures for minimizing emission.
The DC emphasized on the need for proactive action by the implementing agencies. She asked all the line Departments to submit detailed action taken reports regarding measures undertaken regarding Air Pollution Control.
She also stressed the officers to ensure all hotspots related to air pollution are covered so that necessary measures are incorporated in the City Action Plan.
Commissioner JMC Rahul Yadav, besides senior officers of other concerned departments attended the meeting.
