Police organises debate competition on drug abuse in Handwara

Bung destruction drive launched in Qalamabad

HANDWARA, JULY 15 – As a part of Civic Action programme 2022-23, Police in Handwara have organised a debate competition on drug abuse and cyber-crime in Vilgam besides, launched bung destruction drive in Qalamabad.

A debate competition on drug abuse and Cyber Crime was organised at Police Station Vilgam. The programme was chaired by SDPO Handwara, besides SHO PS Vilgam and other officers were also present on the occasion. Teachers and students from GHSS Vilgam, Sanguine Education Institute Punzwa, GHSS Waisa and Bright Career Institute Vilgam participated in the programme.

The programme witnessed an overwhelming response from the participating students who gave concrete message to stop drug abuse. At the end of the programme, cash prizes and appreciation certificates were distributed among the participants. Malik Sadiya of GHSS Vilgam, Tooba Khan of Sanguine Education Institute Waisa and Kifayat Zahoor of Bright Career Institute Vilgam were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, SDPO Handwara highlighted causes, consequences and early symptoms of drug addiction and the ways to treat an addict. The participants were also made aware about cyber-crimes and were advised to make use of internet carefully and in a positive manner.

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Qalamabad along with Executive Magistrate Qalamabad and students of various schools of the area launched a bung destruction drive in Qalamabad area and destroyed wild bung spread over 02 kanals of land. Besides, an awareness rally was also held on drug addiction in collaboration with Govt Model Secondary School Qalamabad.

General public has hailed the efforts of police and hoped that such programmes will be conducted/organised in future as well so that the drug menace will be eradicated completely.
