One more time a woman had to lose her life to the persecution inflicted upon her by her in-laws. The woman died of choking. Though it is not news to the grief-stricken people of Kashmir, this incident has again shaken humanity. Women have witnessed maltreatment at the hands of their in-laws since the beginning. The time for women was never changed. While women are uplifted on the one hand by providing them with the right to education and the right to share an equal space at workplaces. On the other hand, they are snatched of their most fundamental right to live in a peaceful environment. This proves that women are more vulnerable to abuse. No power exists that can save women but themselves. It should be women not to expose themselves to violence. Women carry a share of strength in their very existence. The intervention of other agents in the violence against women is a nine-day wonder. Such agents don’t exist for long. Moreover, societies complicate it way more than always expected. No one in the region is prepared to update their mental status regarding women folk. In most places, daughters-in-law are still treated strangely. Young women are tortured in the name of destiny. In turn, women tolerate much of it in the name of bashfulness. This brutal structure of give and take of barbarity must be ended. Women must know of their rights. The administration must also intervene by imposing rigid punishments on the culprits. This is the right time for the Women’s Commission to establish a set of regulations in this particular society to save young women from molestation, abuse, and murderous attacks.
