Mercury dips in Kashmir, Gulmarg coldest at -4.4 Deg C

SRINAGAR, DEC 12 –  Mercury dips at most places in Kashmir valley with the Ski resort of Gulmarg being the coldest place with minus 4.4 degree Celsius on Monday.The Meteorological Department forecast of mainly clear to partly cloudy and dry weather is expected till December 21 with occasionally cloudy during December 12 evening and possibility of light snow over isolated higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora and Gulmarg.

There would be a further dip in minimum temperature from December 14 onwards, the MeT office said.

The minimum temperature at the sky resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low minus 4.4 degree Celsius on Monday. The temperature was still minus 0.7 degree above normal for the valley of meadow during this period of the season.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.6 degree Celsius on Monday against 3.5 degree Celsius. Bright sun appears today much to the delight of the people and the tourists.

Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.6 degree Celsius against the minus 5.0 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 0.6 degree Celsius above normal for the place during this period of the year.

Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway had a low of minus 0.2 Celsius, Kukernag 0.3 degree Celsius and frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of 2. degree Celsius on Monday, the MeT office said.
