33rd Senior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship commences in Jammu

Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta declares the event open
JAMMU, DEC 08 –  The 33rd Senior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship was declared open at M.A Stadium Jammu by the Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta here today.
The championship which commenced today shall conclude on 11th of this month. More than 1000 participants from 28 states and 8 Union territories are participating in the event. Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta presided over the inaugural function as the chief guest, which witnessed massive participation of people from different walks of life including a large majority of students from different educational institutions.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta said that government is committed to create a world class infrastructure for the athletes and sports enthusiasts of J&K which will not only cater to our youth and equip them with the skill set but also help in hosting mega events like National and International championships in the union territory of J&K. Such events certainly provide ample opportunities to our youth to showcase their talent, Dr. Mehta added.
Secretary Sports Council while presenting the welcome address said that this mega event is also part of the “My Youth My Pride” initiative of the Sports Council and informed the attendees 36 Men and 28 Women teams from across the country are participating in the event.
The Chief Guest was flanked by Director Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chhibber, Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull, Member Sports Council Rajeev Sharma, Chief Accounts Officer Dr. Zafar Iqbal, General Secretary of the Tennis Ball Cricket Federation Imran Lari, Chairman Tennis Ball Cricket Federation Dr. Mohammad Babur along with other Senior members of the federation and other officials of the J&K Sports Council and Youth Service & Sports department.

Participants also pledged to uphold the spirit of fair play and affirmed their resolve to fight against drug abuse. Proceedings of the opening ceremony were jointly anchored by B.K Tickoo, President of J&K Tennis Ball Cricket Association and Imran Lari, General Secretary of the Tennis Ball Cricket Federation.
The Chief Accounts Officer, J&K Sports Council, Dr. Zafar Iqbal presented a vote of thanks.
Among others present on the occasion also included Jitender Mishra, Deputy Director Youth Service & Sports, Nusrat Gazala, Divisional Sports Officer Central, Ashok Singh Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, along with Managers, Physiotherapists, Coaches and Mentors from different centers of Sports Council.
