Mohsin completes 16 kms swimming

SRINAGAR, AUG 28 – Mohsin Fayaz Shah , one of the top national and long distance swimmer of the valley completes 16.02 kms open water swimming at Nigeen Lake in 7 hours and 12 minutes.

The 24-year-old athelete from Ahmda Kadal, Lal Bazar area of Srinagar started his swim at 06:15am along with technical observer and swimming expert Yasir Makhdoomi on 28 August, 2022 in Nigeen Lake, covering a distance of over 16.02 kms.

During the event, different sports and adventure enthusiastic visited the Lake for their best wishes to Mohsin.

By completing the swim successfully, he became the first swimmer of the UT to complete 16 km swimming.

Speaking about the event, Mohsin said his goal was to swim 20kms, however the medical team didn’t allow him to proceed after 16kms due to the certain changes in the weather resulting turbulence in lake.

“Last year, I completed 10kms however this year I wanted to do more than that and was preparing for the same from last 3 month’s. I will gradually increase the distance in the coming years till I finish sea swimming”, he said

Secretary Swim N Survival Society – Kashmir hailed Mohsin for the successful completion of the swim and said, “It’s achievement for the UT in general and Society in particular as Mohsin has learnt the swimming only two years before”.

The swim was organized by Swim N Survival Society – Kashmir in collaboration with Underwater Sports Association of J&K. Yasir Makhdoomi was the observer of the event, Dr. Sheikh Tariq provided medical support while as noted Swimming Expert Riyaz Wani provided overall Supervision for the event.
