SRINAGAR, AUG 24 – At least 300 students from 40 degree colleges of Kashmir division on Wednesday participated in a series of activities on ‘Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation’ at the University of Kashmir.
Three competitions—Poster-Making, Slogan-Making and Declamation—were organised by the varsity’s Office of National Service Scheme (NSS) on directions of Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan with the larger aim of generating awareness against drug abuse with active involvement of college students, and also to enable the students to exchange ideas on this important societal issue.
Controller of Examinations Dr Majid Zaman chaired the valedictory session as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners of the competitions and certificates of participation among the NSS programme officers and volunteers.
“This (drug addiction) is a critical issue concerning the people’s physical, economical and psychological well-being. Students can play a great role in addressing it,” Dr Zaman said, appreciating the Programme Coordinator NSS Dr Mussavir Ahmad for leading from the front to organise such important programmes frequently.
In his welcome address, Dr Mussavir talked in detail about the aims and objectives of holding three different competitions. He specially thanked Mr Sujit Kumar, DIG Central Kashmir Range, for his support and for deputing Dr Muzaffar Ahmad Khan, Director, Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre, J&K Police Department, to deliver a special lecture today. He also thanked all NSS programme officers from KU and colleges for their support to the events.
