DC Bla reviews Flood preparedness in the district

BARAMULLA – The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar today convened a meeting of heads of various departments to review the overall disaster preparedness and flood-like situation in view of the incessant rains in the district.

While taking a review of the preparedness of the concerned departments, the DC directed all departments including Education,  PHE, R&B and Police departments to prepare a  Disaster Management Plan in two weeks period so that mitigation of disasters like floods, earthquake and cloudburst etc will be handled by the  District Disaster Management Authority.

The DC also directed the concerned to remain prepared to deal with any kind of eventuality that may arise due to inclement weather conditions.

Further,  she directed every department to identify vulnerable zones in the district and submit a detailed inventory of utilities so that coordinated efforts are made for  mitigation of disasters. Besides, resource mapping was discussed for its use in every exigency.

Meanwhile, Dr Sehrish directed that  SDRF in collaboration with police administration will submit a detailed action plan for capacity building of resource persons and volunteers and the Fire and Emergency Department will ensure that mock drills are conducted in all educational institutions  of the district.

It was given out that Revenue authorities in coordination with  Irrigation and Flood Control department will execute a demolition drive of the illegal constructions which impose blockade of flood channels in the vulnerable zones.

DC also directed that designated centers be identified at Tehsil level for easy evacuation of affected population during disasters.

It was impressed upon all the departments to establish control rooms and flash helplines for coordinated approach of disaster management.

Moreover,  the Rural Development Department was asked to schedule disaster preparedness meetings with PRIs and make awareness programmes in this regard.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Baramulla, Aijaz Abdullah Saraf, ADC Baramulla Zahoor Ahmad Raina, Sub Divisional Magistrate Pattan/Uri, ASP Baramulla, SE R&B/I&FC, ACD, CEO,  CMO, Tehsildars besides DYSP, DAR and other officials from Irrigation and Flood Control Department, R&B and other concerned.
