IGNOU Regional centre Srinagar celebrates 35th Convocation ceremony

SRINAGAR – Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Srinagar celebrated its 35th Convocation ceremony at Tagore Hall, Gogji Bagh, Srinagar. This function was celebrated at national level and simultaneously 35th convocation organized by IGNOU’s 32 Regional Centres across the country.

The Guest of Honour for IGNOU RC Srinagar programme was Director, National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT) Prof. Rakesh Sehgal and as a chief speaker of the function graced by Director General of Jammu & Kashmir Institute of Management, Public Administration & Rural Development (IMPARD) Senior IAS officer Shri Saurabh Bhagat.

Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar Dr. Kamlesh Meena formally welcomed the guests by presenting bouquets and mementos and formally welcomed the guests.

The Chief Speaker Saurabh Bhagat enlightened the role of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar in Kashmir valley for giving the higher education opportunity to the common masses, youngsters of Kashmir valley and women and girls. The Director General of IMPARD mentioned the work and efforts of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, under the leadership of Regional Director RC Srinagar Dr. Kamlesh Meena by speaking that Dr Meena has carried out the mandate of the University for imparting higher education at door steps with the view to democratize the higher education among the masses of Kashmir valley.

Saurabh Bhagat expressed happiness that the role of IGNOU RC Srinagar is very remarkable and appreciable. Mr. Bhagat said that today’s time only through education can we empower our masses, society and youth of the nation and IGNOU is showing the right direction and correct path to our society.

 

Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, Director National Institute of Technology Srinagar in address stated that IGNOU is the biggest platform for providing higher education as well as setting up across the country. He elaborated the contribution of IGNOU in terms of Study Material, academic programmes, easy reach to the unreached segments of society especially economically backward, marginalized and poor group of society.

Prof. Sehgal appreciated the role of Regional Director Dr. Kamlesh Meena in particularly for the learners of Kashmir valley by reaching every nook and corner of the valley to ensure the easy access for getting higher education opportunities to the common masses, government employees, business communities, house wives and residing people of remote areas by offering the higher education through Regional Centre Srinagar.

On the occasion more than 300 IGNOU awardees attended the function along with many academicians, professors, principals, IGNOU Coordinators, social activists and renowned personalities of Kashmir valley remained present. The function was attended by teacher association president of higher education Kashmir valley Prof. Tariq Ashai, Principal of Govt. Degree College Amar Singh, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, Principal Govt. Degree College Magam Dr. Mohammad Hussain Malik, Principal GDC Kulgam Prof. Nazir Ahmad Simnanai, Principal of Govt. Degree College, Tral Dr. Farooq Ahmad, Regional Director of  Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) Dr. Aijaz Ashraf, Director Health Services Kashmir Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, IGNOU Coordinators Dr. Mujeeb Kawoosa, Dr. Shaista Qadir, Dr, Sameer Farooq Parsa, renowned social activist Dr. Javeed Ahmad Beig, other distinguished guests and media fraternity.

The total number of awardees at the national level convocation were 2,91,588 in various programmes and the total number of awardees from Kashmir were 10368. One of the learners Niyaz Ahmad Yatoo from Chadoora Budgam bagged the Gold Medal in Master of Anthropology.
