AWANTIPORA – A meeting of the Alumni Association IUST was held today at IUST, which was presided over by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shakil A Romshoo. Meeting was organized by the office of newly created, Dean of Outreach and was attended by more than 100 Alumni Association members of the university.

While addressing the alumni Prof. Romshoo expressed his desire to develop strong linkages with the alumni as well as the society at large. At this occasion, he informed the members of the audience that IUST takes pride in being the first university in the region to have established the office of Dean Outreach, with Prof. Shabir Ahmad Bhat, a renowned expert in Management and Organisational Behaviour being appointed as the first Dean Outreach of the University.

Prof. Romshoo said that the office of Dean Outreach in association with Alumni Association of IUST will strive towards establishing strong communication and linkages with academia and industry, enhance corporate relations, international networking, community outreach and extension activities at IUST and thereby turnaround the public image and perception of the university towards betterment.

In his address, Prof. Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Dean, Outreach briefed the audience about the vision, mission and objectives that his office has drawn for academic and community outreach activities and expressed confidence in designing and implementing a robust academic outreach programme at IUST in days to come. He called upon the illustrious alumni of IUST to collaborate and cooperate in taking this university to new heights by promoting and projecting its students and achievements at the national and international level and helping it extend its sphere of influence and activities beyond the boundaries of the UT of J&K. Prof. Shabir invited IUST alumni to be fully involved and associated with academic, research and extension activities of the varsity and contribute by way of their expertise, services, financial and intellectual support towards all its programmes. Prof. Shabir emphasized that the alumni can lead IUST students towards a brighter future by showing them the direction towards success and accomplishment and this can be done not only by extending financial assistance to them but also by providing suitable guidance, mentorship, counselling, information and moral support. Prof. Shabir laid down the roadmap and timeline of activities for the office of Dean Outreach in future.

Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Mallik while expressing satisfaction over the progress made by IUST in all spheres, impressed upon the alumni to be part of future programmes of IUST and serve as bridge between the university and rest of the world.

Prof. A. H. Moon, Dean of Research at IUST while highlighting the achievements of IUST since its inception informed the audience that IUST has done exceedingly well in terms of parameters like research activities, number of patents registered, entrepreneurs trained, performance in competitive examinations like GATE, CAT etc.

Earlier Dean of Students, IUST, Dr. Anisa Jan gave a brief overview of IUST’s journey so far and future directions. Dr. Iqbal Qureshi, DR Estates, who coordinated the event with Dean Outreach, thanked the administrators and the alumni for participating in the event.
