SRINAGAR – Quality leadership, efficient management of finances and functioning is imperative to revive cooperative institutions, said Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K Pole while addressing the participants at the conclusive programme of 68th All India Cooperative week held today at Tagore Hall, here.
The Div Com said the cooperative movement has emerged in various stages, in which people come together to start investment on their common produce for substantial business.
He appreciated the Cooperative Department for encouraging successful cooperators who have promoted their units with a yearly turnover in crores.
The Div Com highlighted the basic principles of functioning and management of cooperatives including one person one vote to elect the management of a cooperative.
He also highlighted the scope of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) presently existing in every district of the country. He added that FPO is 21st Century Cooperative Model and is proving a game changer in the income generation to farmers.
Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Qazi Sarwar; Registrar Cooperative Department J&K, Shafqat Iqbal, Cooperators, members of cooperative institutions and officers of cooperative department were present in the programme.
Divisional Commissioner also inspected the stalls of dairy, Agriculture and handicraft products set up by different cooperators of the valley and enquired from them about the strength of members of respective cooperative societies, management, finances and profit.
On the occasion, Shafqat Iqbal, Director Cooperative department said that cooperative movement needs to explore new methods and techniques to succeed in the competitive market. He mentioned various cooperative units working in the valley including schools, medical stores, Super bazaars, banks and other units.
He said now Farmer Producer Organizations are formed which are registered as cooperative institutions. He said the department is working to achieve the set target for registration of cooperative institutions to involve more and more people.
Various successful cooperators also presented their achievements and suggestions for revival of cooperative institutions.
Meanwhile, co-operators who have excelled in Diary, Agriculture and Handicraft businesses in a cooperative sector were presented mementos and while some were given registration certificates.
