Kashmir parts receive fresh snowfall, temp plummets

Bandipora-Gurez road closed as precautionary measure; MeT predicts more rains, snow till Sunday

SRINAGAR – The parts of Kashmir Valley including Zojilla, Razdan Top and Drass in Kargil district received fresh snowfall on Friday evening while the rains also lashed several parts of Kashmir, thus bringing the temperature down in the Union Territory.

According to the reports the Zojila, Razdan Top in Gurez and other parts in north Kashmir received fresh snowfall today.

Pertinently, the weatherman has predicted two-day wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, saying that the major activity of the Western Disturbance affecting J&K, will be on Saturday.

The local Meteorological department has predicted snow as well as the rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir till Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the MeT in its detailed statement has informed that on 23 October, widespread moderate rain is expected in the plains while snowfall is expected over higher reaches. “Some places on higher reaches especially over Pirpanjal, hilly areas of South Kashmir may receive heavy snow,” the MeT has said.

On 24 Oct, light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places, MeT said.

Meanwhile, in wake of the weather advisory, the authorities in Bandipora district decided to close the 84-km-long Bandipora-Gurez road for vehicular movement from Friday afternoon.

An order issued by Sub Divisional Magistrate Gurez, reads that in view of weather advisory issued by Meteorological department, the traffic on Dawar-Bandipora Dawar-Tulail road shall remain suspended w.e.f. 03: 00 PM of 22-10-2021 till further orders.

“SHO police station Gurez, SHO police station Budugam and I/c police post Izmerg are hereby directed to not allow any vehicle from Dawar to Bandipora and Dawar to Tulail and vice versa after cut offtiming,” the order reads.

Meanwhile, the temperature has started plummeting across the Valley with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recording the temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius against 7.2 degrees Celsius on the previous day while Kulgam’s Qazigund recorded 5.8 degrees Celsius against 6.4 degrees Celsius on the previous day.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir has recorded a maximum of 3.1 degrees Celsius against 2.6 degrees Celsius on the day earlier while Kokernag recorded a temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius against previous day’s 6.7 degrees Celsius.

North Kashmir’s Kupwara district recorded a maximum of 5.4 degrees Celsius against 4.7 degrees Celsius on the previous day.
