A police official said that gunmen fired upon Mr Bindroo, a Kashmiri Pandith, inside his pharmacy near Iqbal Park in Srinagar on Tuesday evening. “Mr Bindroo was critically injured in the attack,” he said, adding the wounded was rushed to SHMS hospital where he succumbed.

He said the gunmen managed to escape during the chaos created due to the firing. “Security forces have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers,” he added.

In another incident, gunmen shot at and critically wounded a non-local near Madina Chowk Lalbazar in Srinagar. “The injured, identified as Virender Paswan resident of Bhagalpur Bihar, a street hawker, was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,” he said.

He said additional security forces have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, sources said that Sumo association president in Naidkhai, Mohammad Shafi Lone, was killed by gunmen this evening at Hajin in north Kashmir district of Bandipora.

These killings come days after two civilians were killed by gunmen in separate incidents in Srinagar October 2. A civilian, identified as Abdul Majid Guru, a resident of Chattabal in Srinagar, was fired at from a close range at Karan Nagar. The wounded succumbed at SMHS hospital. The second incident took place when a 45-year-old Power Development Department (PDD) employee Mohammad Shafi Dar was shot at and killed in Batamaloo.
