KU’s Geography department condoles demise of Prof Shah Manzoor Alam

Srinagar – The Department of Geography & Disaster Management, University of Kashmir, organised a virtual condolence meet to mourn the demise of Prof Shah Manzoor Alam, renowned geographer and former Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, who passed away in Hyderabad on June 22.

The meeting was attended by geographers and academicians from different parts of the country, apart from faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars and students from the University of Kashmir.

Prof Mehraj-ud-Din Mir, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, while recalling his association with Prof Alam, described him as an able administrator who contributed immensely to the growth and development of the University of Kashmir.

Prof Shamim Ahmad Shah, Head, Department of Geography & Disaster Management paid rich tributes to Prof Alam who, he said, not only made significant  contribution in geographical studies but also left an indelible mark in the annals of Kashmir University as its VC.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Prof M Ishtiaq, ex-VC Magdh University; Prof S C Rai, HOD Geography Delhi University; Prof Devender, Dr Akhter Ali from Osmania University, Dr Javed Ahmad and Dr Showat Rashid.

Prof Rubab, daughter of late Prof Shah Manzoor Alam talked about her father’s association with Kashmir and thanked the department and participants for the condolences. The meeting concluded with ‘Fetha Khawani’ by Tariq Abdullah Khawar.
