Amid pandemic, SKIMS Bemina offering a helping hand to drug abuse victims

SRINAGAR: The department of Psychiatry SKIMS Medical College Bemina in addition to participating in COVID-19 fight by Institution has been rendering services to the drug abusing patient population. As per records, the Drug Treatment Centre (DTC) at SKIMS Bemina, with support of National drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), AIIMS New Delhi has been addressing the one of most burning issue of drug addiction by providing free consultation and free medication as well. The DTC has registered more than 400 patients in short span of 9 months despite the institution being COVID-19 designated hospital. Dr. Abdul Majid, HOD Psychiatry and Nodal Officer, DTC SKIMS Bemina said that this has been possible only with the support and guidance by administration of SKIMS especially Director SKIMS/ EOSG & Principal SKIMS Medical College Prof. Dr A G Ahanger and Medical Superintendent SKIMS Bemina, Dr. Shafa Deva. Department of Psychiatry also is involved telepsychiatry services on working days from 10:30 AM to 4 PM (cell No: 9419385600) and community awareness programmes through various platforms in addition to being actively involved in fight against COVID-19. Department also participated in five day capacity building program from 25th to 29th May 2021 organized by National drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), AIIMS New Delhi virtually. Chief NDDTC & HOD Psychiatry AIIMS new Delhi, Prof R K Chadda, and other faculty members from AIIMS appreciated efforts of DTC SKIMS Bemina, Nodal Officer, especially Medical Superintendent SKIMS Bemina and Director SKIMS for facilitating services at academic and clinic fronts in these tough times.
