INDIAN ARMY AND LOCALS CELEBRATE TITHWAL DAY

On the landmark day today Shakti Vijay Brigade and the locals of Karnah celebrated ‘Tithwal Day’ at Tithwal War Memorial along Line of Control here.On this occasion Brigadier SP Consul,Commander Shakti Vijay  Brigade, other military and civil dignitaries and prominent civilians of Karnah laid wreaths at Tithwal War Memorial built in memory of the bravehearts who laid down their lives and made supreme sacrifice in the service of the motherland and line of duty in Indo-Pak War 1947-48.
It would be pertinent to recall that ‘Tithwal Day’ is celebrated on 23 May every year to commemorate the liberation of Tithwal from Pakistani Army who had illegally entered J & K.In 1947 the counter offensive launched by Indian Army;the area was re-captured after a bloody battle on 23 May 1948.The gallant acts of CHM Piru Singh and Lance Naik Karam Singh stood out in these battles, with both being conferred with Paramvir Chakra, the highest gallantry award of the nation for gallantry in the war. Tithwal War Memorial was constructed at model village Tithwal.
Besides Indian Army, civilians of Tangdhar played a vital role in the battle and thirteen of them made supreme sacrifice of life while fighting for the nation. An addition to the war memorial in memory of them was carried out in 2018.
On this occasion, Brigadier SP Consul inaugurated and dedicated a newly constructed library at Youth Center here at Tithwal to the youths which will help them to enhance their knowledge and prepare for competitive examinations in UPSC. He expressed optimism in Indian Army, civil administration and the locals collectively working for development in Karnah and nation building.
