JAMMU, MAY 9: ‘Fever, sore throat, loss of appetite and tiredness are some of the prominent symptoms of Covid-19 infection. If any of these persists, it is time to isolate oneself and get tested for Covid-19’, said Dr Fayaz Ahmad Wani, Professor Department of Medicine, Government Medical College Jammu.

Dr Wani added that timely management of Covid-19 can help in recovery and containment of this virus.

Dr Wani said that people with mild symptoms are advised to drink water frequently and monitor oxygen saturation levels multiple times during the day. Oxygen saturation levels above 94 are safe, and only when the levels fall between 94 and 90, it is time to get alert and check the levels more frequently, he added.

Dr Wani further said that laying in prone position for longer duration can also help increase blood oxygen saturation. Prone position is a body position in which the person lies flat with the chest down and the back up. ‘If the oxygen saturation levels fall below 90, it is time to get hospitalised and get expert treatment’, warns the Professor.

He has urged the public to call helpline number 0191 2571616 for any Covid-related query.

Public can also call Divisional Control Room at 0191-2520982, 2549676, 2674444, 2674115, 2674908.

The public is also informed that JK Government has launched a live phone-in health programme on Gulistan channel which will air twice daily- from 8:30 am to 9:00 am and 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Eminent doctors would take public phone calls during the show and anybody from the public could call on the above mentioned Divisional Control Room phone numbers and seek information related to Covid treatment, home isolation and other non-Covid health problems from the doctors.
