London: England opening batsman Dom Sibley will miss the next two County Championship matches for Warwickshire after fracturing his right middle finger during the match against Nottinghamshire last week.
Sibley will miss Warwickshire’s upcoming matches against Essex and Durham that will begin on April 22 and 29 respectively, and a call on his availability will be taken by the end of the month.
Sibley sustained the injury while fielding in the slip cordon in the match against Nottinghamshire when he dropped the catch of Steven Mullaney.
“The ECB and Warwickshire medical teams will review Sibley at the end of the month and will then take a view on his return to playing,” stated a Warwickshire media release on Wednesday (April 21).
Sibley’s injury is unlikely to affect his participation in the Test series against New Zealand which begins in June. Ben Stokes fractured his left index finger recently during the IPL and subsequently underwent surgery, which is likely to keep him on the sidelines for a lengthy period.
