DIC Shopian organizes Mushaira, Cultural programme

SHOPIAN: The District Information Centre (DIC) Shopian, in collaboration with Parwana Public High School and Media Centre Shopian, organized   Mehfil-e-Mushaira, Debate, Drama, seminar and a special cultural programme at Thairin Keller here the other day.

Poets and writers from various areas of Shopian district besides a large number of students participated in the programme.

The District Information Officer (DIO) Shopian, Mr. Showkat Ahmad Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Mr. Showkat while addressing the gathering said that poets and writers have an important role in preserving the literary heritage of Kashmir and in promotion of cultural activities of the area they belong to. He appreciated them and asked to take part in such events being organized for promotion of cultural activities in the district.

He said the Government is encouraging these literary personalities and holding the event is one step towards this goal. He said in future more such programmes will be organized in the district especially in rural areas of the district.

The other speakers deliberated on the bad effects of use of drugs by youth and highlighted the measures need to be taken for checking this menace in the district. They said that the collective responsibility of the society is to work for eradication of this peril and other social evils in the society.

They said that the main aim of the programme was to spread awareness among the student community to take necessary steps for curbing the drug menace. They also expressed their views on the bad effects of drugs on the young generation.

They explained to the students the importance of cleanliness, social distancing, and care of elderly family members in view of the threat posed by Covid-19 pandemic in the district.

Faqir Wali Mohammad Yari and his party presented a special cultural programme on the occasion besides the School Children.

Later, the students, who were adjudged as best speakers, were awarded on the occasion.
