The poor drainage system within the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) limits got exposed yet again after the three-day wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir, thus adding to the miseries of the people. The concerned had made tall claims over the renovation of the drainage system, but the rainfall in last three days put a question over the statements. Most of the streets and bi-lanes witnessed inundation today, thus causing hardships to the people especially the pedestrians. Some pictures also went viral today in which a prominent College in Srinagar could be seen flooded with the rain water, thus not only exposing the administration, but also left the people to lurch at large. The ground situation continued to remain contrary with the official claims as the people continue to allege that they are being forced to face hardships due to the faulty drainage system. One fails to understand how long the people here would continue to face such hardships. There are people who claim that the authorities concerned instead of resolving their issues, waste most of their time on the social networking sites, saying that they are being pushed to the wall. The better roads, streets and bi-lanes are one among the basic rights of the people, and the concerned must be put to the task for failing to come up to the expectations of the people in the last many years. There is a need to consider the renovation of drainage system across Srinagar at an earliest so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief and the frequent inundation of the roads especially lanes and bi-lanes will come to an end.
