As the authorities are working hard to end the drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir, the people instead of cooperating with the government, are acting as mute spectator and are indulging in leveling allegations against the administration for what they say no concrete measures are put in place to end the menace. We need to understand that this menace can’t be put to an end with the support of general public at the ground level. If we see the recent developments in South Kashmir’s Awantipora area, police has succeeded to a large extend in controlling the menace as the public support helped them to act tough against the drug peddlers and dealers there. The public support has finally put many drug peddlers behind the bars. Instead of supporting police, some people in the recent had uploaded the video of a youth on social media in which, a youth could be seen taking drugs. It is unfortunate that the latter opted to capture a video instead of stopping him from such nuisance. Although hundreds of people involved in drug peddling have been arrested so far, there is a need to tighten the grip on those who are selling the drugs to the dealers. Such medical stores needs to be identified and should face de-recognition immediately for lifetime so that the others could take a lesson from them. Moreover, the public must extended full support to the concerned to ensure that the drug abuse is put to an end in the society at an earliest.
