Put an end to shabby roads

The dilapidated roads across Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley are giving a bad impression to the visitors here despite the fact that the government has been spending a huge amount on the macadamization process every year during the season. This year too, the government has plans to macadamize the roads across the Valley. There are some roads, where macadamization becomes pivotal on each passing year due to the shabby condition of the roads. After a few weeks of the macadamization process, the roads turn jumpy, thus adding to the miseries of the commuters. One fails to understand what steps are being taken to ensure that the condition of the roads would at least sustain for three years. It is being alleged by the people that the contractors are using substandard material during the macadamization process, due to which the condition of the roads turn shabby after some weeks. There is a need to have a proper check in this regard and ensure that anyone found involved in using substandard material should be taken to the task. The persons, if any, involved in using substandard material should be identified and blacklisted so that no one could dare to use substandard material during the macadamization process. Although the government has sought a report from the department in this regard, the authorities must ensure that the faults and lethargy shown in the past will not be repeated and ensure that the strict action is initiated against the erring contractors and employees.
