SRINAGAR, MAY 07 – PARAS Health Srinagar has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first private-sector facility in the region to receive a KTP (Kidney Transplant Program) license, marking a new chapter in advanced healthcare delivery in Jammu and Kashmir.

The approval positions Paras Srinagar at the forefront of specialized medical services, enabling patients to access life-saving kidney transplant procedures closer to home rather than traveling outside the Union Territory. This development is expected to ease both the financial and emotional burden on patients and their families.

He acknowledged that the licensing process required rigorous evaluation and said the achievement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.

Reiterating the hospital’s broader vision, he said Paras Health is committed to delivering quality and affordable healthcare services to people at their doorsteps. With the addition of kidney transplant services, the hospital aims to bridge critical gaps in tertiary care and ensure that advanced treatment options are accessible to all sections of society.

The milestone is being seen as a step forward in transforming the healthcare landscape of the region, with Paras Srinagar playing a key role in expanding access to specialized and life-saving medical interventions. “This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering accessible, affordable, quality, and world-class healthcare to the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” said Ms. Seema Vij, Zonal Director, PARAS Health. Calling it a landmark achievement for the PARAS Health Group, she reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to providing advanced and patient-centric healthcare services across the region.

Ms. Vij also expressed gratitude to the medical team, especially Dr. Aadil Baigh, Nephrologist, and Dr. Yasir Ahmad, Urologist, and their team for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment towards ensuring quality patient care and strengthening healthcare delivery. She emphasized that the PARAS Group remains committed to transforming and elevating the healthcare landscape in Jammu & Kashmir through excellence in medical services and compassionate care.

Speaking on the occasion, Medical Superintendent of PARAS Health, Dr. Shafat Ahmad Kennu, appreciated the trust reposed by the government in the institution. He stated that PARAS Health is committed to providing high-quality treatment and reducing the hardships faced by patients who otherwise have to wait for long durations for transplant procedures.

‘Operation Sindoor’, major capability enhancements landmark moves

JAMMU, DECEMBE 30 – As year 2025 draws to a close, the Indian Army has highlighted ten pivotal milestones including decisive ‘Operation Sindoor’, a calibrated military response after April’s Pahalgam attack that reinforced deterrence and reshaped security dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir.

The year was also marked by decisive action in response to cross-border terrorism, significant capability enhancements, and a strong push towards indigenisation and innovation which has solidified its position as a future-ready force.

‘Operation Sindoor’

‘Operation Sindoor,’ launched by the Indian Armed Forces in May 2025, stands as one of the most significant military responses to terrorism in recent decades. Executed with precision and restraint, the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure across the border, directly addressing the brutal Pahalgam attack that shook the nation and highlighted the persistent threat of Pakistan-backed terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pahalgam Terror Attack

On April 22, 2025, terrorists carried out a horrific attack in the scenic Baisaran meadows near Pahalgam in Anantnag district. At least three to five armed terrorists targeted tourists killing 26 of them.

The attack marked a grim escalation, aiming to disrupt tourism, incite fear, and challenge security gains in the region post the abrogation of Article 370. The incident drew widespread international condemnation and intensified calls for accountability, setting the stage for India’s calibrated response.

Planning and Execution

Initiated on the night of May 7-8, 2025, Operation Sindoor was a joint endeavour emphasising precision strikes on terrorist facilities while avoiding escalation into full-scale conflict.

Command and Oversight:

Operational planning was handled by the Indian Army’s Military Operations Branch, with real-time monitoring from the Directorate General of Military Operations. Senior leadership, including the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, oversaw the execution.

Targets Neutralised:

Nine terrorist camps linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen were destroyed. Seven were hit by Army precision artillery and munitions, while the Indian Air Force eliminated the remaining two. Additional strikes along the Line of Control dismantled over a dozen launch pads, disrupting infiltration networks.

ESCALATION CONTROL

India maintained that no Pakistani military or civilian sites were targeted, focusing solely on terror infrastructure. Strikes were time-bound and calibrated to reinforce deterrence without broader provocation. Pakistan responded with drone and missile attempts on May 7-10, targeting Indian assets. These were largely foiled by integrated air defence systems, including the S-400 and indigenous Akashteer, showcasing advanced counter-UAS capabilities.

By May 10, Pakistan’s DGMO requested a ceasefire, leading to an agreement halting military actions. The Operation Sindoor delivered a severe setback to cross-border terrorism, significantly degrading terror logistics and reducing infiltration attempts throughout 2025. Security forces reported fewer incidents, enhanced operational dominance, and a decline in active launch pads.

Security Gains:

The operation bolstered counter-insurgency efforts, allowing greater focus on development and normalcy. Follow-up actions, including joint operations like Operation Mahadev, neutralised key perpetrators linked to Pahalgam. The year’s achievements have had a profound impact on security in Jammu and Kashmir while strengthening overall deterrence along India’s borders.

CAPABILITY ENHANCEMENTS

The Army this year also focused on technology up gradations which significantly bolstered its stand-off strike capabilities. On December 1, a BrahMos unit under Southern Command, in coordination with Andaman & Nicobar Command elements, conducted a successful combat missile launch that validated high-speed manoeuvrability and terminal precision. Parallel development of extended-range BrahMos variants progressed steadily.

In rocket artillery, two additional Pinaka regiments became operational in June, enhancing rapid fire concentration. A major breakthrough came on December 29 with the successful test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket achieving approximately 120 km range, paving the way for future variants targeting up to 300 km.

Strengthening Army Aviation, long-awaited induction of the AH-64E Apache attack helicopters reached completion this year. The first three platforms arrived in July, followed by the final three in December, providing the Army Aviation Corps with advanced all-weather precision strike and anti-armour capabilities.

The new organisational concepts transitioned from planning to field deployment. A high-profile capability demonstration in Rajasthan in October showcased the integrated operations of Bhairav Battalions (specialised light commando units) and Ashni Platoons equipped for drone-based intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strikes. Accelerated plans aim to raise 25 Bhairav Battalions, alongside specialised Shaktibaan Regiments and Divyastra Batteries incorporating unmanned systems and loiter munitions.

Building on the declaration of 2024-2025 as the “Years of Tech Absorption,” the Army achieved 91 per cent indigenisation of ammunition in service. Major inductions included a wide array of unmanned aerial systems – around 3,000 remotely piloted aircraft, 150 tethered drones, swarm systems, high-altitude logistics drones, and kamikaze variants.

Defence Acquisition Council approvals in August and December prioritised thermal imager-based night sights for BMP vehicles, medium-altitude long-endurance RPAs for tri-service roles, counter-drone technologies, and enhanced precision munitions.

STRATEGIC DISCOURSE THROUGH CHANAKYA DEFENCE DIALOGUE

The Army’s flagship strategic forum featured a Young Leaders Forum on October 31, a curtain-raiser podcast by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on November 17, and the main dialogue in late November centred on the theme of reform-to-transform for national security and development.

FOSTERING INNOVATION FROM WITHIN

The Inno-Yoddha initiative for 2025-26 received a record 89 submissions, with 32 innovations selected for further development and potential fielding, underscoring the Army’s commitment to grassroots ideas and Atmanirbhar Bharat. As 2025 concludes, the Indian Army stands taller – operationally assertive, technologically advanced, and strategically aligned – ready to meet emerging challenges while contributing decisively to India’s security and prosperity—(KNO)

Discusses Pulwama & Reasi budget plans with public representatives

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 07 – Continuing with the pre-budget consultations for the third consecutive day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah engaged in extensive discussions with public representatives and key stakeholders to gain firsthand insights into the issues and developmental priorities of various sectors and districts.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Education Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary to CM Dheeraj Gupta, Administrative Secretaries of Finance, Social Welfare, Tourism, Industry & Commerce, Youth Services & Sports, Deputy Commissioners of Pulwama and Reasi districts, and heads of various departments, both in person and virtually.

Public representatives, including District Development Council (DDC) Chairpersons and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Pulwama and Reasi districts, raised concerns regarding electricity supply, drinking water schemes, flood management, staffing of schools and hospitals, upgradation of primary health centers, construction of bridges, and the development of new tourist destinations, parks, and parking facilities.

Addressing the participants, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized that these consultations were essential for shaping a budget that truly reflects the aspirations of the people. He acknowledged the pivotal role of public representatives in understanding grassroots-level challenges and assured them that their concerns would be duly considered.

The Chief Minister stated that this budget held special significance as it was the first time in many years that Jammu & Kashmir was preparing its own budget in consultation with public representatives. He stressed that these consultations were an effort to ensure inclusivity in the budgeting process.

“In the past, it was not possible for the Finance Minister of the country to meet with you all and discuss Jammu & Kashmir’s specific needs. But after the elections and the formation of our government, we now have the authority to draft our own budget, making these interactions even more crucial,” he said.

The Chief Minister noted that over 33 interventions had been made during the session, reflecting the wide range of developmental issues requiring attention. He assured the participants that while it was not possible to address each demand immediately, “nothing that has been said here will be ignored” and that all concerns would be carefully examined during budget formulation.

Touching upon economic growth and industrial development, he stressed the need to support manufacturing, trade, and tourism. He noted the expansion of the railway network, highlighting how connectivity had gradually improved from Pathankot to Jammu, then to Udhampur and Katra, with plans for the train to reach Srinagar this year. However, he said that apprehensions over Jammu’s economy must be addressed from the adverse effects of shifting trade patterns, ensuring that the region continues to thrive as a commercial hub.

On tourism, the Chief Minister emphasized that Jammu had immense potential, particularly in religious and pilgrimage tourism. He said, “If marketed and promoted effectively, Jammu province can become India’s top destination for religious tourism.” He noted that while most visitors come for Mata Vaishno Devi’s pilgrimage, efforts must be made to showcase Jammu’s other sacred sites, encouraging pilgrims to extend their stay and explore the region’s cultural heritage.

He also stressed the importance of sports tourism, stating that discussions were underway for organizing a major sports event in Jammu, similar to the successful Srinagar Marathon. Plans were also in place for the expansion of Jammu Airport, addressing infrastructural challenges to improve connectivity.

The Chief Minister also expressed his support for private education, stating that Jammu & Kashmir should explore legislative frameworks to encourage the establishment of private universities, providing more opportunities for quality higher education.

Concluding his address, he thanked all participants for their valuable inputs, assuring them that their concerns and suggestions would be incorporated into the government’s policies and development agenda. “We will try to ensure that your ideas are reflected in our policies and programs. Your time and efforts in this consultation process are truly appreciated,” he said.

In a separate pre-budget consultation session, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with representatives from various sectors, including industry & trade, tourism, hotel & hospitality, education, social welfare, tribal affairs, youth affairs, and agriculture.

During the session, stakeholders from various sectors, including industry & trade, tourism, hotel & hospitality, education, social welfare, tribal affairs, youth affairs, and agriculture, put forth several key demands. They emphasized the need for developing Jammu as a religious and pilgrimage tourism hub, expanding private education opportunities, enhancing sports infrastructure, and strengthening support for tribal communities. Additionally, discussions were held on boosting tourism, improving trade policies, and fostering industrial growth to drive economic development in the region.

During his interaction, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the upcoming J&K Budget reflects the aspirations of the people, incorporating their demands into the government’s development agenda.
