AWANTIPORA, AUG 15 – On the eve of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, hoisted the National Flag at a ceremony held on the University campus. The ceremony was attended, among others, by Prof Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Shamim Ahmad Shah, Registrar, Mr. Sameer Wazir Finance officer, Deans of schools, Heads of Departments, senior officers, faculty members and staff.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Romshoo extended Independence Day greetings and reflected on India’s remarkable transformation into a nation of growing global consequence, driven by advances in science, technology, education, and innovation while remaining rooted in its rich civilizational heritage and values.

Emphasising the pivotal role of universities in nation-building, he said that India’s greatest strength is its youth power, which must be empowered not merely as beneficiaries of development but as partners in innovation, entrepreneurship, governance and societal transformation. He observed that the journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 must also be a journey from opportunity to participation and from participation to ownership.

Prof. Romshoo said that IUST has sought to translate this philosophy into action through the implementation of NEP 2020, multidisciplinary and future-oriented academic programmes, skill development, Project-Based Learning, research and innovation infrastructure, and a vibrant incubation and start-up ecosystem. The University’s significant growth in start-ups and incubatees, he said, demonstrates how higher education can enable young people to move from job seekers to innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators.

He stressed that universities must increasingly become bridges between knowledge and society, youth and opportunity, and regional aspirations and national development. Welcoming the new batch of students, Prof. Romshoo urged them to cultivate curiosity, creativity and compassion, embrace emerging technologies, and use their knowledge to solve societal problems and contribute to building a peaceful, prosperous, innovative and Viksit Jammu & Kashmir and Viksit Bharat 2047.

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 15 – J&K Bank today celebrated the 80th Independence Day of the nation with patriotic fervour across its offices throughout the country.

At the Bank’s Corporate Headquarters, MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee hoisted the Tricolour in the presence of Executive Director Sudhir Gupta, Chief General Managers, General Managers, DGMs, senior officers and other staff, who assembled to commemorate the historic occasion.

Addressing the gathering, MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee reflected upon the significance of Independence Day through three defining words – Respect, Pride and Responsibility.

Elaborating upon them, he said, “Independence Day is an occasion to express our deepest respect for all those who sacrificed their lives and devoted their time to secure the freedom we enjoy today. It is also a moment to take immense pride in the long and determined struggle they waged for the country’s independence, and to recognize our responsibility to carry their legacy forward by taking India to greater heights of development and excellence.”

While also saluting the valiant members of the armed forces who continue to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and security, he also linked this year’s theme, “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047”, with Mission YUVA – the flagship employment and entrepreneurship programme of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

MD & CEO said, “The theme reflects the nation’s conviction that the energy, enterprise, and aspirations of its youth will be central to building a developed India. In Jammu and Kashmir, this vision is finding meaningful expression through Mission YUVA, which seeks to enable our young people to translate their ideas into sustainable enterprises and emerge as job creators rather than job seekers.”

Highlighting the Bank’s unique responsibility towards its core geographies, MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee urged every member of the J&K Bank family to dedicate themselves fully to strengthening the institution. He said that a strong and resilient J&K Bank is “vital to fulfilling our responsibility of supporting the economic development of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh with excellence.”

Concluding his address, he urged, “On this Independence Day, let us pledge our complete dedication to strengthening this institution so that we can fulfil, with excellence, our responsibility towards the economic progress of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh besides our operational geographies in rest of the country and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.”

Meanwhile, Independence Day was celebrated at all the Bank’s controlling offices across the country, with the respective Divisional, Zonal and Cluster Heads hoisting the Tricolour in the presence of staff at their workplaces. The ceremonies highlighted the significance of the occasion and the shared responsibility of contributing to the institution’s growth and the nation’s continued progress.
