HYDERBABAD –  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Saturday will dedicate a 216 feet tall “Statue of Equality” dedicated to 11th century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya at the Jiva Srirama Nagar of Muchintal on the outskirts of the city.

The inauguration is a part of a 12-day ongoing 1,000th birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Ramanujacharya.

Before unveiling the statue, Modi will visit the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) campus in Patancheru here where he will kickstart its 50th anniversary celebrations by unveiling a specially designed logo and release a commemorative stamp.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate ICRISAT’s Climate Change Research Facility on Plant Protection and ICRISAT’s Rapid Generation Advancement Facility. These two facilities are dedicated to the smallholder farmers of Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Keeping in view the security breach in Punjab, the Telangana Police will deploy at least 7,000 police personnel as part of the security arrangements for Modi.

According to sources, President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will also participate in the ongoing celebrations.

The statue to be unveiled on Saturday is made of ‘panchaloha’, a combination of gold, silver, copper, brass and zinc. It is one of the tallest metallic statues in sitting position.

It is mounted on a 54 feet high base building, has floors devoted for a Vedic digital library and a research centre, ancient Indian texts, a theatre and an educational gallery detailing many works of Sri Ramanujacharya.

The statue has been conceptualised by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram.

The Prime Minister will also visit the identical recreations of 108 Divya Desams (ornately carved temples) that surround the Statue of Equality.

Sri Ramanujacharya worked to uplift people regardless of nationality, gender, race, caste or creed.
