BUDGAM, SEPTEMBER 22: Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, today chaired a meeting to review the implementation of the Green India Mission (GIM) in the district and deliberate on the proposed GIM Perspective Plan for 2026–2031.
The meeting was attended by DFO Budgam, Syed Waseem, senior officers from the Forest, Rural Development, Agriculture, JAKEDA and other concerned departments.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on the proposed Perspective Plan, including the identification and restoration of degraded forest areas under the Mission.
The committee noted that 53.3 hectares of degraded forest land have been identified for interventions under GIM during 2026–2031, covering areas under the Pir Panjal Forest Division, Budgam, and Special Forest Division, Tangmarg.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for coordinated and outcome-oriented implementation of the Mission. He directed the concerned departments to ensure that all proposed interventions are properly planned, technically sound and aligned with local ecological requirements.
He further directed the concerned officers to maintain close inter-departmental coordination, ensure timely completion of all preparatory formalities and focus on effective restoration and long-term sustainability of the identified areas.
The Deputy Commissioner underscored that the GIM interventions should contribute meaningfully towards improving forest cover, restoring degraded ecosystems and strengthening environmental sustainability in the district.
After detailed deliberations, the committee recommended that the GIM Perspective Plan 2026–2031 be forwarded to the UT Steering Committee for further consideration and necessary action.
