NCD Awareness and Screening Program Held at GDC Tangdhar

Tangdar, May 29: A comprehensive Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Awareness and Screening Program was successfully held at Government Degree College (GDC) Tangdar through a joint initiative of the Health Department, under the supervision of Dr. Arif Khawaja, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Tangdar Karnah, and Govt Degree College Tangdar . This collaborative event marked a significant effort to raise awareness about lifestyle-related health risks and promote early detection and prevention, especially among youth in the border region of Karnah.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Professor Sadaf Rouf, who emphasized the critical role of academic institutions in health promotion and praised the Health Department for conducting such meaningful outreach in remote areas. Mr. Shafeeq Khan, Dice Incharge, managed the day’s student activities and ensured enthusiastic participation from students of various schools across the Karnah subdivision. A range of engaging competitions was organized, including a youth health quiz, slogan writing, painting and chart making, and short reel and film presentations, all focused on creating awareness about non-communicable diseases. Dr. Farah, Medical Officer, delivered an informative lecture on the growing burden of NCDs like diabetes, hypertension, and various forms of cancer. She highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, healthy habits, and peer-led community education.

Simultaneously, the Health Department conducted free health screening camps on the college premises. Participants were screened for diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and breast, cervical, and oral cancers. The medical team ensured proper documentation and provided counseling for individuals who required follow-up care. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and appreciation notes for students who excelled in various competitions. Dr. Arif Khawaja, BMO Tangdar, extended his gratitude to the Principal of GDC Tangdar, the faculty, and students for their full cooperation and active involvement. The Principal also thanked the Health Department for choosing GDC Tangdar as the host venue and assured continued support for such public welfare initiatives. The program stands as a model of effective collaboration between the health and education sectors, empowering students with life-saving knowledge and strengthening the foundation of preventive healthcare in Karnah.
