ANANTNAG, APRIL 30 – Department of Cardiology in GMC Anantnag started doing procedures in cathlab on 11th April 2025.
The much awaited facility for the whole South kashmir was flooded with cardiac emergencies, including heart attacks, heart blocks, arrythmias, cardiac temponades, etc, right from day one.
In 20 days’ time, the department performed 177 cases that included.
Coronary angiography – 101
PTCA/STENTING-58
PACEMAKER-12
LBBA PACING-3
CRTP-2.
Cardiac temponade drainage – 2.
The cardiologists at the department worked till late evenings to cope up with the rush of cardiac emergencies.
Of the 58 angioplasties, 26 were primary angioplasty done in patients with acute heart attack, who were immediately taken to cathlab soon upon their arrival. This included a tourist who survived the pahalgam firing incident but suffered a massive heart attack. He was immediately taken to cathlab, where his primary angioplasty was done. Fifteen patients with complete heart block received pacemakers. Any other cardiac emergency was dealt with in time, and no patient was referred. This facility received patients from the whole South kashmir and areas like Rajouri, poonch, Doda, kishtawar, Ramban, Banihal, and even proper jammu town.
There was no mortality, and all patients went home in excellent condition, said Dr Syed Maqbool, head of the Department of Cardiology. He appealed to the authorities for deputing more cardiologists to the institution, as the patient flow is going to increase exponentially and the current strength of cardiologists is too little to deal with. Dr Maqbool praised and thanked the principal GMC Anantnag Prof Dr Rukhsana Najeeb for her overwhelming support to the Department, and this herculian task would have been impossible without her help.
