Tangdhar-Chowkibal Road Closed Again After Heavy Snowfall, Restoration Work Underway

TANGDHAR MARCH 13 – The crucial Tangdhar-Chowkibal road has once again been closed due to 8-10 feet of fresh snow accumulation along stretches of the NC Pass, following an intense spell of bad weather. The closure has severely impacted connectivity, leaving residents stranded and affecting essential supplies in the region.

Amid extreme weather conditions and heightened avalanche threats, personnel from Project Beacon and the Indian Army are engaged in relentless snow-clearance operations. Despite their tireless efforts, the heavy accumulation and continuous snowfall have made the task increasingly challenging.

Local authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with official advisories. The administration is closely monitoring the situation, ensuring that stranded individuals receive necessary assistance.

Residents of Tangdhar, Keran, and Machil continue to face difficulties due to frequent road closures during winter months. The strategic highway remains a lifeline for these remote areas, and its prolonged closure disrupts essential services, including medical emergencies and food supplies.

Officials have assured that all possible resources are being deployed to reopen the road at the earliest, but safety remains a top priority due to the risk of avalanches. Meanwhile, locals have urged the government to explore long-term solutions for winter connectivity, such as tunnel projects or alternative routes, to mitigate such disruptions in the future.
