SRINAGAR, MAY 06 – In order to enhance public participation and anticipated Voter turnout in the upcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha-2024 in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, a mega Voter Awareness Rally was organized by District Election Office Srinagar under Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) here on Monday.
The Voter Awareness Rally was flagged-off by the Returning Officer (RO) for 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat from Polo Ground which passed through Polo View, Residency Road, Regal Chowk, Ghanta Ghar and other major roads. After flagging-off the Rally, the Returning Officer highlighted the importance of voting and said that the Awareness Rally is the part of the efforts of the District Election Authority to engage the community and promote active participation in the electoral process. He said the Awareness Rally is expected to have a significant impact on improving voter turnout, particularly in the areas that have witnessed low voter engagement.
The RO appealed to the Electorates particularly the New Voters and Women Voters to participate in upcoming electoral process enthusiastically and exercise democratic rights by pressing the EVM button on May 13, 2024, the Poll Day for 02-Parliamentary Constituency.
He further underlined the initiative of the Election Commission of India (ECI) taken for providing Home Voting facility to the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities in the Lok Sabha Elections-2024. He said Voters above 85 years of age and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with 40% benchmark disability can avail the optional home voting facility on May 07, 08 and on May 09, 2024 in Srinagar.
Similarly, the RO also briefed about the Mobile Polling stations, Pink Polling Stations, PWDs Polling Stations, Green Polling Stations and Youth Polling Stations established in the Constituency to facilitate the voters on the Poll day and welcome them to experience a festive-like environment.
Deputy District Election Officer, Srinagar, Mir Imtiyaz ul Aziz; Nodal Officer SVEEP, A.H Fani; other Officers from District Election Authority, Information Department, School Education Department and a large number of students were part of the Election Awareness Rally.
