Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) SKIMS Earns Top National Ranking in Healthcare Research

SRINAGAR, APRIL 25 – SKIMS as an institution of health care provider and Research Centre recorded another achievement of excellence by distinguishing itself at the national level. This time, it is the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) of the institution which has been rated among the top performing Units of the country’s healthcare research network.
The Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. Of India, in its comparative assessment has given the ranking making the institution proud. In this regard, a high level team from the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, headed by the Joint Secretary, Smt. Richa Khoda (IRS), was on a visit to SKIMS on 18TH April 2024 to review the overall performance of the Multidisciplinary Research Unit SKIMS.
The team of experts from MoH&FW was welcomed by Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education, J&K UT / Director SKIMS, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah (IAS) and Nodal Officer, MRU SKIMS, Dr. Rauf Ahmad Wani, Professor Department of General & Minimal Invasive Surgery SKIMS. The team during the interaction with HOD’s, Faculty Members and functionaries of the SKIMS Administration as well as other participants associated with MRU SKIMS who participated in the meeting expressed their satisfaction over the performance of MRU SKIMS in clinical research. It was informed that SKIMS is one of the few centres to have initiated a large number of projects on various diseases and public health issues and has been rated as one of the best performing Units in the country.
Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education, J&K UT / Director SKIMS, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah (IAS) while chairing the meeting welcomed the team from DHR, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. Of India. Director SKIMS congratulated the team of Multidisciplinary Research Unit SKIMS for their excellent performance that has contributed in making the Institute as a centre of excellence in research. He added that SKIMS is the one of the best Tertiary Care Institutes of the Country with a strong foundation laid by Medical Luminaries. He said that the Govt. Of J&K will ensure all support & facilitation to the Govt. of India to facilitate funding / capacity building so that SKIMS becomes one of the best referral research oriented Institutions of the country.
Smt. Richa Khoda said that based on the performance, SKIMS is eligible to be linked to the Research Excellence Centre for receiving a whopping grant / assistance for research projects on public health and also assured full support and assistance to the SKIMS in terms of grant/ capacity building or any assistance to promote ecosystem for research.

Later Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education, J&K UT / Director SKIMS along with DHR/ ICMR experts visited Multidisciplinary Research Unit SKIMS. The team expressed their satisfaction and appreciated SKIMS for having well established research labs with latest facilities.
