Directs officers to take strict action against violators of traffic rules

BARAMULLA, FEB 01 – Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chairs District Road Safety Committee meeting in his office chamber to strategize and implement effective measures aimed at inculcating responsible road behavior and averting road mishaps.

Additional District Development Commissioner Aijaz Abdullah saraf,Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla,Amod Ashok Nagarpure, Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Zahoor Ahmad Raina, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, Superintendent of Police Sopore, Divya Dev,Assistant Regional Transport officer Muazzam Ali,Chief Education officer Baramulla Balbir Singh Raina,Dy SP Traffic Rural, Mujahid Nazir Dar and other concerned were present during the meeting.

During the meeting, thorough discussions were held among the officers to identify and incorporate measures necessary to prevent accidents and stern directions were passed by the DC to inculcate these preventive measures.

The DC directed the officers to constitute teams across the district which would comprise of a Megistrate, Traffic Police Personnel and a Police officer and these teams would be responsible to conduct district-wide drives against the traffic violators and enforcement of the law.

With an aim to ensure stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, Minga Sherpa directed the officers to issue court challans against traffic rule violators and suspend the license of any driver found the traffic rules.

Additionally, the DC instructed the officers to identify hungry routes and prioritize the deployment of more State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses along these routes to mitigate vehicle overloading.

Meanwhile, Minga Sherpa issued stern directives to the ARTO to streamline and regulate the operations of both the Bus Stands and Taxi Stands across the district, ensuring strict accountability measures are in place to promote responsible transportation practices.

Furthermore, the EOs of the municipalities were tasked with installing of CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of their jurisdictions to effectively monitor vehicles for instances of rash driving while R&B department was instructed to promptly address any issues of potholes on roads to mitigate the risk of accidents.

With an aim to educate responsible road behavior, the DC assigned CEO the responsibility of conducting district-wide road safety awareness campaigns at the school level.
