SRINAGAR, DEC 05 – Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences celebrated its 41st Annual day today at SKIMS auditorium. Prof. Abdul Wahid, former HOD Medicine, SKIMS was the Chief Guest while as Prof. Baldev Singh Former HOD Urology SKIMS graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Founder Director SKIMS, Prof. A.K Nagpal joined as a special guest virtually.
Dr. Showkat A. Zargar, former Director SKIMS & renowned Gastroenterologist of UT J&K delivered Sher-i-Kashmir Oration. He enthralled the audience with his inspiring life journey sharing his experiences as a medical practitioner and administrator. He acknowledged the services of various faculty members and lauded them for their contribution and shaping the institution and said the foundation of SKIMS is based on patient care, research and academics.
Prof. Abdul Wahid thanked the organizing committee for invitation. While addressing the audience he said SKIMS is temple of knowledge. The Institute has survived despite many challenges and will continue to remain a significant public Institution and people have great hope from this Institution, he added.
Director SKIMS Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul in his address highlighted the achievements of the institution. He said various initiatives were taken to digitize various patient care services. Other than this various projects in the engineering area have been completed, he added. Besides procurement of high-end equipment many administrative decisions were taken to facilitate patient care services. He informed that many super-specialty courses were started in this academic year which included DM Pulmonary Medicine & MCh Endocrine Surgery.
Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS, Prof. Bashir A Laway highlighted the academic achievements of the University and said SKIMS is the first deemed university to have started NBE accredited fellowship in colorectal surgery.
Principal Medical College SKIMS Prof. Irfan Robbani & Prof. Baldev Singh Fomer HOD Urology SKIMS in their addresses thanked the organizing committee and lauded SKIMS for its exemplary services in patient care and research
On the occasion Annual Report was released and winners of the grand round presentation were felicitated for their best work/ presentations.
Organising Chairman Prof. Syed Besina Yasin in her welcome address thanked all dignitaries and participants. She also thanked administration for constant support. The function was concluded with vote of thanks by organising secretary Prof. Rumana Makhdoomi.
