SRINAGAR, AUG 10 – Deputy Director Tourism Kashmir Malik Waseem Saturday gave away  certificates to over 40 youth for successfully completing a 2-month swimming course at Water Sports Centre Nigeen.

The camp was organized by  Swim N Survival Society in collaboration with Tourism Department Kashmir at Nigeen Water Sports Center in the month of June and July.
The course non-swimmers especially children turned up in large numbers who successfully learnt the art of swimming.

Scores of the children of different age groups along with their parents attended the morning coaching camp regularly.

While appreciating youth for their participation in the camp, the Deputy Director said swimming is the most important sports activity and the department would provide every facility for larger participation of the locals in such camps.

He said youth have realized the importance of water sports which would also develop tourism sector.

While assuring that the department would continue coaching classes at Nigeen, Malik Waseem said the water sports center would be further augmented with the latest equipment and the process of procurement has already started.

During the function, the swimmers who showed best swimming skills during the camp and crossed Nageen Lake were awarded.

Besides swimming, the participants were trained to prevent and respond to swimming emergencies in rescue skills, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques, rescue operations, moving the victim to safety, removing the victim from the water, providing emergency care, first Aid, Boating etc.

Riyaz Wani, Yasir Makhdoomi, Dr. Sheikh Tariq, Zahid Iqbal, Sheikh Rashid Fayaz, Mujeeb Shah, Shakeel Shah, Mudasir Chesti Nasir Wani were technical experts who provided training to the students while as other volunteers assisted them in the training.
