The concern of the administration toward the drug de-addiction movement and rehabilitation process in the hospitals and individual psychiatry centres is receptive in nature. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar visited the Addiction Treatment Facility (AFT) in the JVC hospital which is located at Bemina and inquired about the facilities and the treatment the admitted drug addicts receive at these rehabilitation centres. The medical staff at AFT was directed to treat such patients with utmost care. Stress was laid on the counselling of the patients who are lodged in connection to substance abuse and those who are yet to motivate themselves to give this fatal stuff up. It was revealed to the officer that as many as three thousand six hundred forty-five patients have been treated in the previous year. Along with the medical treatment, the hospital is also providing timely counselling to the patients to envigorate themselves to repudiate the dangerous habit of drug abuse. Enthusiastic support of employment was also extended to such youth and their families were given hope to help their children benefit themselves from the government-sponsored schemes. These schemes will provide sources of livelihood to the youth who are unable to earn sufficiently for their lives or are unemployed. Since unemployment has been a primary cause of choosing drugs, the abusers were extensively encouraged to participate in empowering themselves through the available schemes. It’s appreciated that the administration has shown concern for this desperate section of society, however, more of it is required in the coming time for holding counselling sessions at the mass level to spread awareness regarding drugs and related menaces.
