The progress in the handicraft section is evident by the apparent support and appreciation of the artisans at both the regional and national levels. The department of Handicraft and Handloom has accelerated the journey toward the advancement of the sector. The artisans have had a tough time struggling for a better livelihood and recognition of their art. Surviving on peanuts provided by their wealthy masters and preserving and protecting their art is a bravery that required acceptance from the government and promotion on the global level. Maintaining the legacy of rich Kashmiri arts and crafts in the region and outside is the endeavor of the artisans who have suffered for ages to continue with their beloved art of gracing blank articles with bright colors. These artisans deserve the commendation provided by the government to various artists specialized in different skills like Sozni work, Paper Machie, and hand-knotted Carpet. This has encouraged other handicraftsmen to embrace their art and never lose hope in the good that is yet to come to them. However, the introduction of schemes for the betterment of artisans’ lives and a reasonable increment in their livelihood should be stressed. Ending the hardships of these craftspersons is the need of the hour. Management of the crisis they have been through until now must not be repeated to them to ensure the engagement of more and more artisans in the traditional work of arts and crafts protection. The schemes must intend the participation of educated youth to strengthen the sector. Gradually more young men and women must be educated in these skills to lead their way through the world.
