Calls for strong University-Industry linkage

ANANTNAG, NOV 15 – Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Nilofer Khan on Tuesday visited the varsity’s South Campus here and chaired the concluding ceremony of a two-day ‘TechFest’, an event that brought together people from academia and industry to help foster greater linkage between the two.

In her presidential address, Prof Nilofer said such events are very important for the University to develop a strong network with the Industry and to keep pace with the technological advancements so that our students do not lag behind their counterparts in updating their knowledge and skills.

Congratulating the Department of Computer Sciences South Campus for organising the TechFest, Prof Nilofer advised the students to be well-versed with technological advancements, saying “data is the future and is expected to influence all aspects of our lives”.

Reiterating her commitment to further development of South Campus, Prof Nilofer urged the students to actively participate in the upcoming ‘Sonzal’ festival to showcase their talent.

Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir, who was a special guest, said the University is formulating a Master Plan for further development of South Campus in terms of infrastructure and pro-student facilities.

In his welcome address, Director South Campus Dr Mukhtar A Khanday said the event aims to connect South Campus with the Industry to help its student pass-outs to establish themselves as professionals in diverse fields of technology.

Dr Hilal A Khanday, Coordinator, Department of Computer Sciences South Campus gave a detailed overview about the two-day event. He said competitions including a coding competition, technical quiz and ‘Hackathon’ were held which saw an active participation of students from across higher education institutions in the Valley.

An alumni meet of the department was part of the TechFest which was attended by alumni serving various academic and non-academic institutions, besides top tech firms like IBM, Infosys and Google, in different parts of the country.

Mr Shahid and Mr Muddasir from LeLafe Solutions, a  Kashmir-based IT firm, talked about how the University can get closer to the Industry, while Mr K P Singh, a manager from Marg Education Academy, discussed how to bridge the Industry-Academia linkage.

The closing ceremony was attended by faculty, students and scholars of South Campus, besides varsity officers including Prof Aijaz A Wani, Provost (Boys Hostels) and former Director South Campus.

On the occasion, the students of the department presented colourful cultural performances, even as the winners of competitions were felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor.
