LUCKNOW, NOV 12 –  Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and J&K National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday met Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav and expressed grief over the demise of SP founder and patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

After meeting Akhilesh at his residence, Abdullah said, “I was very close to Mulayam Singh Yadav and I knew him from several years. I made a lot of efforts when he was to be made the Prime Minister of the country, but it didn’t happen.”

Abdullah said he and Mulayam shared seats in the Parliament. “I couldn’t come when he passed away. Today I met Akhilesh and offered my condolences and prayed for the peace of the departed soul,” he said.

On the political question that whether a leader like Akhilesh could lead the third front in the future, he said, “This I cannot say before you as we will discuss it when an all party meeting is held.”
